Security Officer

The security officer is someone who is more professional and skilled than a security guard. People never differ between them but there is a big difference in their work styles as well as in their skills and techniques to maintain the security of any place. In the past times, there was no concept of security officers. People hire guards for themselves which were known to be their bodyguards. Whereas, employees hired for the security of entrance gate were call as the watchman or the security guard. They were less trained and have a little ability to defuse any violent or criminal situation. Most of the security guards were just good at ringing the fire alarms or calling the police. But in the present times, with the changing scenarios of safety and security, the security officers have originated and taken their place in different organizations and as well as for famous individuals. They are smarter than the security guards and as their name depicts they are the officers. Their rank is above then the rank of security officers. They are desired to monitor, observe, control and maintain the peaceful environment of any place. Adding, their job descriptions and roles to play are more complex than those of simple security guards. I am not saying that the security guards are inferior or they do not do anything but just trying to make a difference between them. This will clarify the minds of people and will help them in choosing what is suitable for them being a guard or officer.

Security officers are the controllers and maintainers of the entire security of any place. They are mostly kept above the guards. They guide them about what to do and what not. Adding, whenever a situation is out of the control of security guards, For example if someone at the entrance argues with the guards while checking, they call their security officer to tackle that person. Similarly, before any occasion, event, conference or a meeting, a security plan is developed. This plan consists of strategies, skills, and mechanisms for fighting any emergency situation. And the security officer is its head. He firstly confirms the plan and then assigns specific duties and responsibilities to the guards. Other than this he is more observant and alert than everyone other. He continuously communicates with his team and directs them whenever needed. He roams here and there, observing people and tries to detect if something suspicious happening. A security officer is always attentive and ready to act at the most dangerous situations. For a security officer, everything is secondary when it comes to saving someone. He never hesitates and just responds heroically thinking about nothing. Bravery, Intelligence, help are the main characteristics of a security officer.

The security officer cannot be only differentiated on the basis of being armed. It is something more which gives him this designation. He protects different specified areas while continuously patrolling. He never loses his attentiveness. A security officer has more responsibilities than the guards, would not make a wrong impression. He fulfills his own responsibilities as well as keep an eye on the guards sometimes helping them too when it is a crucial working time. He is undoubtedly intelligent and his IQ level has to be too good than the others. He can smell things anywhere with no odor. He should have the ability to see the unseen things. He must manage to listen what is still not told through words. This is not only a difference of uniform or badges. It is all about performing more crucial duties and responsibilities with more smartness and braveness. A security officer has the right to detain the trespassers. This right makes him more conscious of any on-going situation. They have to be more tricky and skilled for it. Robart D. Sollars is a recognized expert on security issues. He in his article namely, What’s the real difference between the security officer and a security guard wrote, “Modern security officers are, at the very least, high school graduates. In a few cases, they have college degrees or studies behind them. They are intelligent, street smart, capable of thinking proactively, and they handle crisis situations regularly. They are taught to use their heads to defuse a situation instead of a .38.”
